Avec Tony, Rumena Bužarovska s’attaque au mâle qui se croit alpha dans toute sa splendeur… ou plutôt sa médiocrité. Tony est narcissique, lâche, franchement détestable et drôle sans le vouloir. Originaire de Macédoine, l’autrice signe une satire enlevée d’une masculinité mal placée, qui trouve sa place dans une littérature des Balkans souvent mésestimée.

And yet, Toni gives the novel its title and is its absolute protagonist. And I must admit, he becomes odious. He is a detestable character for everything he does, feels, and suffers, and for how he does it, how he seems not to feel it, and his utter lack of awareness of anything beyond himself; Rumena Bužarovska has nailed him.
