Dark, addictive, and brutally funny, Toni takes the universe of  My Husband  and  I’m Not Going Anywhere  into new territory: that of the great novel about the macho man in freefall. A vitriolic portrait of the universal misogynist and, at the same time, one of those rare novels that makes you laugh out loud just before your blood runs cold.

The Macedonian writer continues to cruelly push this kind of abhorrent male character. And she does so with a pitch-black, super-acidic, uncomfortable humor , which has become her trademark, until she turns the story into a grotesque farce. She also holds up a distorting mirror to men , but also to women. The question Buzarovska leaves hanging is unsettling: What if, once those layers of good manners are peeled back, we discover that there’s a Tony not far from us?
